ROCK OF DUNAMASE
THE ROCK OF DUNAMASE

Perched on a hill outside Stradbally town, the ruins of this Ancient Fortress are truly spectacular. And it’s free to enter and explore. Through the centuries, warriors have battled to control the site, and Vikings pillaged the settlement in 842!

The remaining ruins of the Dunamase Castle date from the 12th century, and there are loads of cool fortified battlements still intact. Kids love it! It’s fantastic for photo opportunities too. Reaching the top is a steep climb in places, but well worth it for the views to the Slieve Bloom Mountains & surrounding counties.

  • It’s approx 20 minutes drive from Glamping Under The Stars.
  • Parking is free but spaces are limited.
  • Pop into Stradbally or Portlaoise for lunch afterwards.
