Family Days Out For Easter 2024

Spring is here! It’s time for a family friendly adventure over the Easter holidays. And 2024 could be your year to give glamping a try. Book a stay in a cosy hobbit house and use some of that Easter egg chocolate to make s’mores with the kids around the campfire!

There are plenty of family activities happening nearby too. From Easter egg hunts to steam train rides, meeting cute animals at the local pet farm, sampling the ‘hot chocolate menu’ at the chocolatier’s cafe, or zip lining over a lake, there’s plenty of fun to be had when you’re Glamping Under The Stars this Easter.

Stradbally Woodland Railway

Hop aboard the Stradbally Woodland Railway for a journey back in time through a picturesque forest on Easter Sunday and Monday. Enjoy unlimited trips on the 1km railway, relax at the seating area, and treat yourself to snacks and drinks from the tuck shop.

Temptation Chocolate Café

Home to the best hot chocolate in Laois (they even have a hot chocolate menu!), it’s well worth a trip to the Temptation Chocolate Café in Heritage House, Abbeyleix, this Easter.

They always have fabulous Easter-themed treats (and great coffee too), and the beautiful jewel-coloured handmade sweets & biscuits under the glass counters are a joy to behold.

Willy Wonka eat your heart out!

Abbeyleix playground is up the steps from the café – a great place for kids to burn off some of the sugar rush.

Sign up for an egg-citing Easter Chocolate Making Workshop where kids can unleash their inner chocolatier and create their own Easter treats to take home.

Suitable for ages 8 to 16. Also, don’t miss the Easter Egg Hunt featuring face painting and children’s crafts.

Chocolate Workshop – Sat, 30th March, 2024 (2pm – 3pm or 3.30pm – 4.30pm).

Tickets €20 per 1 hour workshop.

Easter Egg Hunt – Sun, 31st March, 2024 (10am – 4pm).

Experience the joys of spring at Castleview Open Farm, where families can meet and feed  a variety of animals, (from ponies, donkeys, alpacas & pygmy goats), and fall in love with the newborn lambs & and fluffy bunnies!

 There’s also a playground, a maze, crazy golf, a little go-kart track, and more.

Light refreshments are served in the onsite café too.

There’s something for all ages this Easter. Small children will love the ‘fairy village’ of tiny houses, and the ‘mini ropes challenge’ (a couple of feet off the ground) is great fun for little ones too.

Older kids looking for a challenge will enjoy the treetop walk, high ropes course, and the chance to whizz over the boating lake on Ireland’s longest over water zipline.

And if that’s not exciting enough, you can try your hand at archery, or even do a spot of axe throwing!

    Fairytale wooden treehouse with turrets at Birr Castle

    Birr Castle Easter Quest

    How about an Easter Quest? At Birr Castle, kids can follow clues along a trail through the gorgeous gardens, solve puzzles, and claim a well-deserved (& tasty) reward. Explore the beautiful gardens, visit the space & science centre, and clamber up the turrets of the Giant Treehouse.

    Details:

    The Easter Quest is running from Friday 22 March to Sunday 7 April, (9am – 4pm daily).

    The Quest is included with general admission tickets.

      After a day of adventures, you can return to Glamping Under The Stars and unwind in your super cosy, super cosy hobbit house.

      Gather around the campfire, sing a few songs, toast some marshmallows, and spot a few constellations under a starry sky. Let’s make Easter 2024 one to remember.
